A woman was angry with her former superviser, former because he'd fired her not long before. So she
snuk into his house, found him sleeping in his bed with his wife besides him, and she stabbed him in the head multiple times. The wife who was promptly awakened defended the life of her beloved* husband by hitting the other woman over the head with a baseball bat.
In the video here, a neighbour vocalises her ability and willingness to do basically the same, but with a firearm.
I applaud her!

Dial 911 and die
Another person who called 911 for assistance has died, as the dispatcher sent rescue to the wrong house.
First they lost 18 minutes figuring out the right street, but even after the confusion (Wells ... Wales, I can see the confusion) it took another 19 minutes before an ambulance was dispatched!
This person died from medical issues, maybe she could have been saved.
Imagine the same situation with somebody beating down your door, or with an abusive spouse ... a burglar or anybody else who intends to injure or kill you; how long would it take for you to get through to the operator, would he/she be able to send help immediately and how fast would help arrive?
Survive untill it does.

DGU at home
Not my home fortunately.
A man shot an intruder in his house. At first his gun wouldn't fire because the safety was still engaged. So ... word to the wise, you might want to run a systems check before you move into the same room as an intruder.
The guy wants to become a police officer, I can only hope he makes it, just like I hope he makes it through all of this without a legal preoblems or a civil sut that bankrupts him.

Man fights of assailant burglar ...
... the injury he caused by defending hiss own life from the attacker, armed with a sharp object, allowed local police to arrest the burglar ... by following the blood trail.

This is somewhat of a success story.
Somebodies hous was broken into, and he was the victim of a violent criminal, but he fought back which resulted in the capture of a dangerous man. And nobody had to die.
In times of need, any object can become a weapon with which to defend yourself, a tire iron was used in this instance. I suppose the victim was lucky enough to have something useable as an effective weapon in the vicinity, available to him.
Don't rely on having such luck. If you feel at risk of being confronted by a violent criminal, get a decent weapon and become proficient with it.

Martial artist captures criminal.
Get this: A 53 year old woman chased down a criminal in his twenties, and captured him, allowing police to take him into custody only blocks away from the crime scene. They believe the man in question is responsible for several burglaries in the area.
While I applaud this womans willingness to not let criminals get away with their actions, I hope she realizes how bad it could have ended had the criminal had a knife on him.
If they're running, let them run. that's what I think.

Another passive security measure defeated.
Impact glass, laminated glass that is, has been hailed as a great way of keeping house safe from hurricane damage as well as criminals. However now it would seem that criminals have found a way to defeat this passive security measure.
By beating a small hole through the glass pane, they insert a metal wire to open the window, according to Andy Scalese from ADT Security. He calls a homeowners reaction to get a defensive weapon extreme, and instead advices more of his companies passive security measures, such as alarms that go off when a window is being battered, motion sensors and outdoor lighting.
Personally, I'd rather that a burglar be repelled by a motion activated sprinkler system, kept out by a steel cored door, anchored firmly into a section of concrete wall, denied entry by shutter-covered polycarbonate windows and videotaped by a motion activated camera as he enters my property. But all of those measures are horribly expensive! At least compared to a home defence gun. Doesn't require a subscription to a security company, doesn' cease to function when there's a power failure and doesn't have to be pried loose (which should be hard if the security measure are decent) when you move.
