Welcome once again to the gun debate critic on sunday, current events in the UK.
It's been a rather shocking week, as a heavely pregnant woman was attacked in her home! She was bludgeoned over the head and seriousky injured. Fortunately, her child was allright, doctors induced labour and brought the baby healthy to this oft horrible place. In response, police are stepping up their activities in the neighbourhood. I applaud their efforts, but I also regret that they can only do so after the facts. That's not the polices fault, that's just the way it is I'm afraid.
The twenty third teenager has been killed in Londen, a 17 year old was killed with a single stab of a knife. The same day another teen was killed in an unrelated incident. Knife attacks are no reason for city officials to consider their city dangerous it would seem ... "sure, a woman was stabbed, but this place is perfectly safe otherwise, I swear!". Perhaps she's lucky ... another woman was raped at knifepoint by multiple attackers.
To illustrate the administrations failure at keeping guns out of the hands of kids, a 13 year old was found in posession of a handgun, ammunition and sound supressors. The gun may be a Makarov Baikal-442, which may very well have been procured in eastern Europe and smuggeled into the UK.
In a display of justice after the horrendous fact, a young drug dealer was sentenced after shooting three people dead with a semi-automatic mac-10, and then stabbing two people after that. He regrets ... running out of ammunition.
And once again, a petrol bomb was used to attack an inhabited construction, the house of a law enforcement official.
Banning guns, not quite working great if you ask me.

Current events in the UK
Welcome again to the gun debate critic on sunday, current events in the UK.
Starting off with a hint of mystery as often before, two people were found dead with serious head injuries, cause unknown or otherwise undisclosed at the moment.
I'm glad to see justice come down hard on the 16 year old killer of a fourteen year old boy, stabbed him to dead him for giving the other "a dirty look". Mind that a life sentence hardly ever means spending life in prison on this side of the ocean. If anything, maybe these harsh punishments will turn youngsters away from violent crime ... if only:
A small gang of "Brady Children" attacked a middle aged man, who survived but needed medical attention for a skull fracture. Do think of the children!
There have always been some who tought criminals would simply pick on easier targets with guns unavailable to the law abiding, an example of this can be found in this incident, where a woman was assaulted and robbed by an unarmed attacker. The victim ended up in the hospital. Another woman was robbed at knifepont.
Others predicted that criminals would simply switch to other weapons, this has again been confirmed as a band of criminals carried out a robbery armed with a hammer and a stun gun. Another pair of criminals carried out half a dozen of robberies with a large kitchen knife and a metal bar amongst their weapons. And yet another group of criminals used a machete and knives to attempt a robbery during which they stabbed a security guard in the ass.
I suppose some will be glad to see criminals moving away from guns I suppose ... ah wait:
An apparently random shooting proves that guns are still available to the criminal element in the UK, a spent shell would indicate that the gun used was a semi-automatic firearm. Another shooting brought the teenage death-count in Londen up to 22, with many more dead outside of the capitol.
One of the responses to these dozens of dead children has been to crack down on knife posession, continued actions remain a way to put people behind bars. One arrest per hour was the average of an action in Essex, though 75% of those arrested were arrested for drug crimes. One might dispute the effects, three teenagers were hospitalized for stab wounds yesterday, as well as a man in his twenties.
Once again, fire fighters have come under attack by youths, this along with the recent "spate" of firebombings may prove to be a great danger in the long run. But it need not all be firebombings and molotov coctails, dousing somebody in gasoline and setting him on fire isn't unheard of either.

Welcome back to the gun debate critic on sunday with this weeks events in the UK.
Starting off with this weeks teenage victims of violence
After last sundays post, two men were stabbed at a music festival. While one will survive his woulds described as "horrific", the other one has passed away at the hands of an attacker who is yet to be found. Another man was stabbed and seriously injured along with a girl who suffered minor injuries. A man was shot to death in Dublin, the second shooting fatality in 24 hours.
Showing that robbers don't restrict themselves to guns and knives, four men armed with sledgehammers carried out a brutal robbery of a jewellers.
Now for some good news! The elderly man who confronted a gang of louts (obnoxious, anti-social scum for y'all yanks) has been cleared of charges by a jury of his peers

Current events in the UK
Once again, it has not been a peaceful week across the pond.
Headlining is the shooting of a 16 year old girl ... well, it would be headlining if them peekers hadn't lost a stack of classified documents on the train ... again.
Either way, a 16 year old girl was shot by a 19 year old assailant in the city that is being dubbed "Gunchester", despite the 13 million dollar effort to enforce the anti-gun laws (this is in addition to the normal police costs)
Another person was shot, this one died. Police are visibly patrolling the area and canvasing the neighbourhood in search of information, and to show the people that they really do investigate these matters. No suspect has been named or arrested, police are appealing to the publuicto do their work for them ... to pass on any useful information.
A suspicious object was found after a big bang was heard, no clues what happened just yet.
There's been an assault with a knife, (aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for those south of Canada), a kid was seriously injured when he was attacked with a brick. A violent criminal, serving time for assault was allowed some leave from his sentence, but did not return. Police are currently carrying out a manhunt.
Not quite peacefull, but there was less violnce in this weeks sunday paper.

Current events in the UK: start snitchin'!
And what a week it has been!
Welcome once again to the gun debate critic on sunday, casting a glance at the other side of the ocean. This weeks editions contains a high amount of recent devellopments, as well as a rather humorous story of how the police "surrounded" and stormed a house ... read on.
There's been a lot of activity on the "knife control" front, for god reason! A huge rally of knife control proponents was supposed to be adressed by gun-control activist Pat Regan, unfortunately she had been stabbed to death earlier this week. I suppose this -in a way- makes as strong a point as she could have made by being there in person.
After the "succesful" implementation of knife detectots on the streets, calls are being made to install knife arches at schools as well, to which the teachers replied (and I imagine): "but we don't want to disarms these kids, we'll get stabbed! If you see how those same kids have no reservations when it comes to beating a policeman can you blame them? One such kid has been charged with 11 assaults!
Another manner by which people are trying to curb violence, is by countering the underground "stop snitching" campaign by a "start snitching" project of their own, offering up to £1000 (that's two grand for y'all yanks) to kids who succesfully rat out a violent criminal.
I can only imagine the memories evoked in the lucky few who managed to escape the USSR or the DDR, societies halfly built around giving up information on percieved political undersirables.
Staying in line with StatSi doctrine: a compulsory national ID scheme is being called a threat to privacy by citizens rights groups, the usual rhetoric by both parties continues as the general population doesn't even look up from their game of footy and their desigated patch of pasture.
And on a -this isn't funny, but still I'm laughing- note: the police laid siege on a building said to contain men with weapons, according to an informant. However, when police finally stormed the place after a prolongued long standoff, they found it unoccupied. Claiming they have no reson to doubt their witness, the police assume the criminals must have fled out the back ... of a house which police claim they had surrounded ... (excuse me, I'm having diffculties controlling my laughter)
On to this weeks body count then:
There's been one fatal stabbing in a London nightclub. Someoen else was also stabbed to death. A young man has attacked a LEO with a knife, injuring him severely. A teenager was stabbed to death, a woman asphyxiated. And if you think it's all serious, there's been a drive-by bludgeoning with a brick! ... wait, that's serious too, the victim washurt pretty badly ...
70 people were arrested on (or in relation to) drug charges.

Man fights of assailant burglar ...
... the injury he caused by defending hiss own life from the attacker, armed with a sharp object, allowed local police to arrest the burglar ... by following the blood trail.

This is somewhat of a success story.
Somebodies hous was broken into, and he was the victim of a violent criminal, but he fought back which resulted in the capture of a dangerous man. And nobody had to die.
In times of need, any object can become a weapon with which to defend yourself, a tire iron was used in this instance. I suppose the victim was lucky enough to have something useable as an effective weapon in the vicinity, available to him.
Don't rely on having such luck. If you feel at risk of being confronted by a violent criminal, get a decent weapon and become proficient with it.

Strippers club not an offensive weapon.
Stripper as in a man who takes off his clothes and dances for money.
Club as in the truncheon (or nightstick for y'all yanks) that is part of his outfit, he dressed as a policeman.
What the devil am I talking about?
Well, this story takes us back some, it takes place in obnoxious Oceania where we lay our scene, a place where toy swords need to be locked away and policemen lose faith in the justice system.
The story all started on the 26th of april, 2007, when two policemen spotted a fellow wearing an outfit much like theirs in
the streets. When they confronted the man, he said he was a student of matters genetical who danced around without his clothes to supplement his income. The real policemen then watched the show the man put up in a pub, before hauling him off downtown, to charge him with several offences, including the posession of offensive weapons and wearing a police unifom as seen in the picture to the left.
By december however, the lad was cleared of all charges, namely three different weapon charges for two batons and a can of defensive airosol spray. It was decided that the stripper had "reasonable excuse" to be in posession of these items. I don't suppose he slept calm for long, as little longer than a week after it was reported that the prosecution would be appealing the dismissal of charges.
Today however, it has once more been decided that the penal system has better things to do than bug this student any further.
In retrospect, I can only decide that this entire matter has been a waste of both private funds, as well as taxpayer money and court-time. Honestly, the courts can't seem to put real criminals behind bars, so they go after students like this kid?
For shame lord!
Note: the bold lettering in this posts means in no way to insinuate that British policemen are gay men, or pervy women. However I can say that the officers in question are a pair of wankers, regardless of their gender.

Current events in the UK
Hello everybody, welcome once again here on the gun debate critic on sunday, glimpsing across the pond at the global example for gun control activists: the united kingdom.
Little time to waste here, let's get going:
There's been one drive-by shooting, leaving a man injured by pellts (birdshot?) in his neck. Another man was shot in the legs in front of his kids in what looks like a para-militairy attack. Another couple of criminals used guns to rob a shop, threathening to kill the cashier.
Another armed robbery on a pub by men armed with blunt implements left no injured, thank God.
Still, there were some fatalities; a 16 year old kid was stabbed to death, four have been charged. A man died a good month after being assaulted.
And this weeks taker of the cake: a kid who was attacked by a gang of 17 armed with -amongst others- swords. Other weapons included were baseball bats, knives and a bicycle chain. The victim died from a stab to his heart.

People injured in various ways.
It was a particulary shocking day to a lot of Americans today.
A twelve year old accidentally shot another teen when playing with a gun. This is an obvious case of gross negligence on accaount of the owner of the gun.
Try telling the schoolgirl that was stabbed seven times with a pair of scissors in her school hallway that she was safe there.
One man attacked a couple of hikers with a bat, and a middle aged man managed to impale himself ...
I can't believe the world today ...

Nottingham responds with armed patrols
In suit of the shooting of two teenagers, Nottingham streets will (once again) be patrolled by officers armed with firearms.
Brought to you by the same people who proclaim that guns don't keep you safe, and carrying a knife for self defence is perverse.
Meanwhile, another teenager has been killed, another one was beaten to death, AND an older man.
All of this coinciding with the government gussying up the prison system and closing down schools.
Freedom is captivity, ignorance is wisdom, safety is peril

He's not a violent kid, all he did was beat a toddler to death with a bat
A mother leaves her 17 months old daughter in the care of her twelve year old son and his 10 year old brother.
Said toddler is of course not perfectly quiet, this aggrevates the 12 y/o who decides the proper course of action is to repeadedly beat the child over the head with a baseball bat.
The toddler doesn't survive, and the 12 y/o will be tried for murder one as a juvenile if everything stays the way it is.
...
Imagine how much worse this could have been if there had been a gun around?

They will just use other tools
Just a couple of examples of tools that criminals will use when deprived of guns. A couple of Canadian tourists was attacked by a gang of criminals wielding the bat, knifes and screwdrivers were taken from them later. Also in Brittish Ireland, a kid was pummeled with a shovel.
And don't tell me that less people are dying. Teenage homicide has never been this high!

My Hope, and best wishes to the child who was shot in face. He's currently in critical condition, but stable.

A crime so horrid ...
... that he pleaded guilty and accepted his fate of dying while incarcerated, rather than have his parents hear about what their son had wrought.
It's not an excerpt from a play, book or movie. The man who killed Alan Shalleck, one of the co-writers of curious George, had done so in such a gruesome manner that he rather accepted a lifetime in prison, than put his parents through trial.
And if you know where you're reading this, you probably already know he didn't abuse a gun.

"One of the reasons Ditto took the plea was so his parents would not have to sit through a trial and hear details of the crime, Ditto's attorney, Robert Gershman, told The Palm Beach Post.

Shalleck had 83 blunt force injuries and more than three dozen stab wounds, including to the abdomen, neck and groin, an autopsy revealed."
Some people aren't quite as civilized as we make them out to be, as we'd want them to be. Allowing or disallowing them to have firearms would not keep them from hurting you or anybody else, once they've set their mind to it.

Whether or not the shooting was justified or excusable hasn't been decided jet, for all we know the officers involved could be charged under criminal law.
Not that I think they should, a clothes iron is perfectly fit for bashing someones head in according to the department of justice, which reports that an assault with a blunt object is more likely to result in a serious injury than an assault with a firearm.
The youth involved was reported to be a "difficult" child.
If I were to see an enraged person coming at me, I'd defend myself to the best of my abilities as well. I would hopefully not kill the assailant, but I would not hold back until I've effectively stopped him. I prey that he desists after seeing a weapon.

You think people are hurt because of guns? Think again!
Until now, a lot of people have had their ideology revolving around this idea:
It's okay for law abiding citizens to have guns, but we need to keep them out of the hands of criminals.
By denying criminals the right to legally buy guns, and by reducing gun ownership amongst the law abiding (or loophole skipping) we've been trying to reduce the amount of stolen and bought guns available to criminals.
Well, I've been reading a document released by the department of justice:
Weapon use and violent crime.
At page six, we find the following:
Of all violence with a weapon, the crimes committed with blunt objects/other weapons were the most often associated with victim injury (36%). Twenty-eight percent of the crimes with knives/sharp objects and 15% of crimes with firearms involved injury. Offenders armed with knives accounted for 6% of all violence but 24% of all serious injuries — having inflicted serious injury on about 1 in 8 of their victims. About 1 in 15 victims of offenders using a blunt object/other weapon and 1 in 22 victims of offenders with a firearm sustained serious injury.
REDUX:
Edged weapons: 1 out of 8 victims is seriously injured
Bludgeons: 1 out of 15 victims is seriously injured
Guns: 1 out of 22 victims is seriously injured
Furthermore: (skipping to page 7) When a criminal uses a gun, the victim walks away without injury 85% of the time, and when injured, it's most of the time (65%) only a minor injury. This study considers all gunshot wounds to be serious, so those minor injuries are either a black eye from being bludgeoned with a firearm, or hearing damage from a shot that did not hit (intentionally or otherwise)
Even unarmed criminals are more likely to injure you! (23.6% Vs 15.0%) (though less seriously)
Both bludgeons and knifes are more likely to injure the victim, Knifes in 36.0% of the cases, blunt objects 27.7% of the time. Knifes are most likely to inflict a serious injury)
Am I saying we should start to hand out guns to known criminals? Absolutely not!
What I'm saying is this:
If somebody tells you that he or she wants to take firearms away from criminals for your own good, he or she is either uninformed, or pursuing motives other than your well-being.
Fight crime, not guns!
