... but apparently didn't have a gun or explosives.
Contrary to what KSN is claiming, police did NOT find explosives in the home of a student who had claimed he wanted to shoot and bomb other students. After this was heard by other students and passing it on to the proper authorities, the angry ones house was raided and an incendiary device was recovered.
While I'll be the first to admit that incendiaries are very dangerous (more so than explosives in my opinion), they are not explosives. Firebombs aren't "explosives" and even then: incendiary device could be anything from a thermite grenade* to a Molotov cocktail or just a plastic bottle of coleman fuel.

Man plotted to molotov RNC.
A man was found in possession of multiple molotov cocktails. He intended to disrupt the republican national convention by causing a power outage, he also intended to use his firebombs against law enforcement personnel should they try and stop him:
Fortunately, nobody was actually injured.
- “I will light those pigs on fire.”

Current events in the UK
A body was recovered, the victim presumably died from injuries to the neck and face. A man died of undisclosed injuries after being attacked, yet another person is in critical condition following an assault ...
So when I was going through my blogroll this morning, I spotted a true gem over at sharp as a marble. Where he spots a news article with something interesting to say:
Some people knew this before, some have been saying so all along. Some people have been in denial for some time now. I'd say others have known but keep denying it because of ulterior motives.
Point to proof, a man used a handgun to try and rob a bank just now.
This weeks knife crime alone is enough to fill a blog. One kid was stabbed to death after a party, don't conuse him with the OTHER kid that was stabbed at a party and died. Q:Did you hear about that kid that got stabbed to death at the party - A:Which one?
Two men were stabbed, one died in what is called "not a random attack". Earlier, yet another teen was stabbed to death in London.
If anybody was wondering, arsonists *do* still kill people, large amounts of illegal drugs are still being confiscated and few people bat an eye at either.

- Guns are always available and stemming the flow of weapons remains an almost impossible task.

Current events in the UK
Welcome once again to the gun debate critic on sunday, current events in the UK.
It's been a rather shocking week, as a heavely pregnant woman was attacked in her home! She was bludgeoned over the head and seriousky injured. Fortunately, her child was allright, doctors induced labour and brought the baby healthy to this oft horrible place. In response, police are stepping up their activities in the neighbourhood. I applaud their efforts, but I also regret that they can only do so after the facts. That's not the polices fault, that's just the way it is I'm afraid.
The twenty third teenager has been killed in Londen, a 17 year old was killed with a single stab of a knife. The same day another teen was killed in an unrelated incident. Knife attacks are no reason for city officials to consider their city dangerous it would seem ... "sure, a woman was stabbed, but this place is perfectly safe otherwise, I swear!". Perhaps she's lucky ... another woman was raped at knifepoint by multiple attackers.
To illustrate the administrations failure at keeping guns out of the hands of kids, a 13 year old was found in posession of a handgun, ammunition and sound supressors. The gun may be a Makarov Baikal-442, which may very well have been procured in eastern Europe and smuggeled into the UK.
In a display of justice after the horrendous fact, a young drug dealer was sentenced after shooting three people dead with a semi-automatic mac-10, and then stabbing two people after that. He regrets ... running out of ammunition.
And once again, a petrol bomb was used to attack an inhabited construction, the house of a law enforcement official.
Banning guns, not quite working great if you ask me.

Current events in the UK
Welcome again to the gun debate critic on sunday, current events in the UK.
Starting off with a hint of mystery as often before, two people were found dead with serious head injuries, cause unknown or otherwise undisclosed at the moment.
I'm glad to see justice come down hard on the 16 year old killer of a fourteen year old boy, stabbed him to dead him for giving the other "a dirty look". Mind that a life sentence hardly ever means spending life in prison on this side of the ocean. If anything, maybe these harsh punishments will turn youngsters away from violent crime ... if only:
A small gang of "Brady Children" attacked a middle aged man, who survived but needed medical attention for a skull fracture. Do think of the children!
There have always been some who tought criminals would simply pick on easier targets with guns unavailable to the law abiding, an example of this can be found in this incident, where a woman was assaulted and robbed by an unarmed attacker. The victim ended up in the hospital. Another woman was robbed at knifepont.
Others predicted that criminals would simply switch to other weapons, this has again been confirmed as a band of criminals carried out a robbery armed with a hammer and a stun gun. Another pair of criminals carried out half a dozen of robberies with a large kitchen knife and a metal bar amongst their weapons. And yet another group of criminals used a machete and knives to attempt a robbery during which they stabbed a security guard in the ass.
I suppose some will be glad to see criminals moving away from guns I suppose ... ah wait:
An apparently random shooting proves that guns are still available to the criminal element in the UK, a spent shell would indicate that the gun used was a semi-automatic firearm. Another shooting brought the teenage death-count in Londen up to 22, with many more dead outside of the capitol.
One of the responses to these dozens of dead children has been to crack down on knife posession, continued actions remain a way to put people behind bars. One arrest per hour was the average of an action in Essex, though 75% of those arrested were arrested for drug crimes. One might dispute the effects, three teenagers were hospitalized for stab wounds yesterday, as well as a man in his twenties.
Once again, fire fighters have come under attack by youths, this along with the recent "spate" of firebombings may prove to be a great danger in the long run. But it need not all be firebombings and molotov coctails, dousing somebody in gasoline and setting him on fire isn't unheard of either.

Firebombing spree? blame it on video games.
So about a month ago, multiple verhicles ware set on fire by criminals with firebombs. Now, the confessed culprits are in custody and they blame ... grand theft auto IV, a video game.
what, "I didn't mean to, the video game made me do it!" ?
Seriously, at some point their parents should have told them that setting other peoples stuff on fire is a big no-no right? Should the store cashier not have been a little suspicious about some kid/kids checking out glass bottles, rags/fabric and lighter fluid? I'm not blaming the cashier, don't worry, he/she did her job and it is not a cashiers job to make sure kids are well brought-up.
This does show how easy it is to construct such a deadly weapon, all it takes is a trip to the local grocers according to the news report. In reality, a glass bottle of coleman fuel would make a rather crappy incendiary weapon, but they did their intended purpoe so I'll just keep that can of worms shut.
Now we can expect another run on GTA:IV, "it teaches our little ones to make molotovs, eeeek! Ban it! Ban it! Think of the children."
First off, minors shouldn't be playing that game, and parent should be taught the habit of checking esrb rating, (pegi.info for y'all brits), or even better: "what they play".
Secondly, where was all this stuff before? People have been doing some pretty (omitted) things since way before video games, and the games of ages past weren't quite the peacefull platform hopping, cuddely entertainment that people like Jack Thompson seem to think of it.
As a matter of fact, Cracked.com released an article about the worst games from before.
I guess release in 1995 meant that "phantasmagoria" didn't make the list (Video, not for the faint of hearth!)
A couple of kids who haven't been properly raised if you ask me ...

Firebombing, not just for limeys
- "The methodical and calculated steps these extremists took showed blatant disregard for the safety and welfare of our community,"
Said police chief Skerry, whose name does not instill fear. He was talking about presumed animal rights activists who firebombed a mans house and also set fire to his car.
I've only just recently written an article on firebombing, here's some more:
Guns are "dangerous" which is to say they've got abuse potential in part because they can be used to kill at a distance according to many gun control activists. Well, firebombs do not even require a line of sight! They can easely kill multiple people, cause enourmous amount of property damage and may end up causing a serious multy-building fire in the inner cities.
Demonising guns is not going to be the answer to the violence epidemic that plagues most of the world.

The truth in Olegs words
Oleg Volks site, a human right once convinced me of the merits of the gun rights movement, he got me to hop off on this side of the fence so to speak. Still, I took his words with a grain of salt, cautious not to assume anyone telling the truth.
One thing on his site that would definitely be up for discussion is the following piece on his page concerning aesthetics:
That last part is what I'd like to focus on today, the manner in which a gasoline bomb (molotov coctail) could be used to kill somebody, or rather -as I like to use reality as my witness over my imagination- I'll show you how somebody was killed in an intentional fire.
One thing on his site that would definitely be up for discussion is the following piece on his page concerning aesthetics:
- Guns are used to kill lots of people in the US every year. They're much more convenient for killing than, say, a knife or a crowbar, and marginally more convenient than, say, a Buick or a gasoline bomb.

- After an arguement, somebody set fire to a womans apartement, effectively killing her and seriously injuring her son.

Current events in the UK
Welcome all to the gun debate critic on Sunday, as I glance at the other side of the pond and see if the UK is starting to become a peacefull utopia yet. Just a quick glance this sunday:
Starting off with the hint of mystery, a man was killed in a street attack, cause of death undisclosed.
Two people were stabbed but will likely live, another man was stabbed to death. Two others were injured, one of them a 17 year old. Another mas was stabbed with a broken bottle, I can only assume that after the obviously succesfull laws concerning knives, we'll now be seeing the outlawing of glass bottles as well.
A man was shot to death in London and a woman set a van with an acetylene cilinder on fire, acetylene is a highly explosive gas.
Nope, not quite there yet ...

Current events in the UK
For the first time, I've started writing this a few days in advance, it is thursday now and I'll
be adding onto this post untill it is scheduled for release on sunday.
Another kid was stabbed to death, David Idowu was only 14. This year and just in Londen, 19 teenagers have been killed as of thursday, the majority (14 out of 19) of them stabbed to death. The police is coming down hard on knife crime though, arresting 1437 people in seven weeks and confiscating 731 knives. Teenagers are getting involved with crime in an increasing frequency, as seen here: a teenage girl is being charged with some serious offences such as robbery and assaulting police personnel.
On Friday, it was reported that four people had been stabbed to death in London, and there had been two more knife murders in England (1,2) Another teenager was repeadedly stabbed, but is now in stable condition. Martin Dinnega (14) was stabbed to death because he gave someone a dirty look ... this friday night we counted seven fatalities in under 24 hours! Gordon Brown intends to come down even harder on knife crime, hoping to increase the successes that are being made these days. Shortly after, two more kids got stabbed in an assault.
It's not all kids who die, as this case clearly shows, one adult killing another in an unknown fashion. Then there's this story of a man in his 20's or 30's getting stabbed to death, and this one of two men killing a middle aged woman ... knife criminals kill in all layers of society.
Not just knife crime however, a woman was charged with wounding with intent after she set somebody on fire! Another woman killed a 33 year old man, no method listed in this article. A man was attacked with "blunt and bladed" weapons, he was injured but survived the attack. A petrol bomb was used to attack a pub in Northern Ireland and a man was gunned down in England.
On this page, which must have eluded me last sunday, you can read about multiple robberies and another case of arson. Do notice the case where a pizza courriers was attacked and injured by a gang of criminals, he was cut in his arm. Such courriers are favourable targets for criminals in the USA as well, and many are staunch supporters of CCW right.

Current events in the UK
It's been two weeks since I last wrote this "column" ... it's not gotten any better.
Even CNN released a video of the latest child victim of knife crime, a 16 year old boy stabbed to death. A young man was stabbed and remains in critical condition, security guards were attacked, stabbed and cut as they tried to chase down suspected shoplifters. Another man, 19 years of age, was attacked and presumably stabbed, he too is in critical condition.
There's been multiple robberies by criminals armed with knives, two are reported here, at least one person was injured. One would think that serious punishments such as this one (over 11 years in jail) would serve as a deterrent. If not, perchance we could re-introduce the chance of being shot during the comission of a crime?
Moving out of the realm of knives and other sharp objects: there's been an arson attack against a bussiness, fortunately, nobody was injured. Another arson attack targeted an inhabited house, two senior citizens were indoors when the attack took place, neither is reported to have been injured. A pipe-bomb exploded, causing serious material damage to a house, fortunately nobody was hurt.
Despite legislation that amounts to an effective ban on firearms, a man was shot earlier today, injured in the stomach, he'll most likely live.
A seventeen year old girl was repeadedly raped by three men.
Police are continuing to wage war on drugs, arresting multiple dealers in targeted raids. I do hope they manage to keep up their successes, they generally don't leave any inoccents dead and do manage to haul back a lot of contraband, unfortunately that's not enough ... it's never enough ...

Current events in the UK: anti-stab workshops
Welcome once again to the gun debate critic on sunday, where I get you up to speed on recent devellopments in the United kingdom.
Starting off once again with a hint of mystery: a dead body was found wrapped in garbage bags, while it's still unclear how the 50 y/o man died, police are considering it a suspicious death.
In a stellar display of police work, officers arrested the man who stabbed a woman to death, as he walked into a police precinct. Another stabbing took place in an antique shop, leaving a middle-aged woman injured.
In a rather gruesome crime, a woman was raped in a city center, the police are trying to locate the two people who helped her after the attack
A few firearms incidents as well. Two were injured by shotgun fire and a car was shot at by masked gunmen. A senior citizen was murdered, and a man tried to kill another person by setting him on fire!
There's been a considerable toll on young lives this week, a child was seriously injured in the face following an assault, two kids aged 10 and 12 were stabbed by a 15 year old during a botched robbery. A 14 y/o schoolgirl was attacked by another girl (17/18? age unknown) after she had been followed home.
Capitalizing on this trend of children getting stabbed and sometimes killed, some are offering "anti stab workshops", self defence classes honed to teach children to prevent being stabbed. Their curriculum is said to include time tested strategies such as: "Give them what they want" and "run away", as well as "wet yourself, curl up into a ball and plea for mercy as an attacker twice you age and size catches up with you"

Molotov everything
Once again, an angry person resorts to violence, using the first weapon available to him: An incendiary device.
A man tried to firebomb a radio station. Multiple people were injured, but fortunatle no fatalities. With any luck, they won't even have to go through life disfugured by burns.
If guns are too readely available, why didn't this guy just go out to get one? There's no waiting period in Georgia according to stategunlaws.com ... why didn't he just go pick up a gun if those are the tools preferred by killers?

Current events in the UK
You weren't worried, were you?
Well, you should be, if you or your family lives in the UK, despite great efforts by the last administration cime is soaring high, people are dying and in denial, so here's a couple of facts:
I would appear that not a week goes by without somebody being found dead in the streets. Again someodies body, a 20 year old man, was found lifeless on the pavement. Cause of death undisclosed.
Another man was found dead after an attack, nature of his injuries undsclosed.
A child was slain in a high profile killing, beaten to death in a bakery shop.
There's been yet another firebombing. Didn't people like me and Oleg Volk warn of this exact thing? A gun is only marginally more effective at killing people than a bottle filled with gasoline, some random junk and a rag ... but guns have been banned while petrol and glass bottles remain available to the general public. What was that about a double standard two posts back?
Another thing "our side" warns off is that criminals under an administration that bans firearms will simply switch to knifes, as illustrated in this story. Not a big deal? Assailants with knives are roughly twice as likely to seriously injure you according to the USDOJ's study "weapon use and violent crime"
Half a million dollars worth of drugs, amphetamines and cocaine, was captured at the border, people aren't raising an eyebrow, especially not if they're dead.
Closing it off for today: the sword wielding gang who stabbed a kid in the heart, killing him has been convicted to spend "life" in prison. Not all of them, just three. A part of me hopes they too get stabbed, with something else than a sword in a place other than their heart.

Current events in the UK
It's sunday, you know the drill ...
Recently elected major Johnson has vowed to finally do something about the crime rate that was allowed to flourish under labour .
What crime would that be then?
Starting off with knife crime today; one man was found with multiple stab wounds he'll likely live, another man was stabbed to death. There's been a slash attack, and a robbery by men armed with a machete.
One villain used a knife to attack and rape several women, another man raped a teenage girl in an alley.
Coming after sex crimes and knife attacks this week, the mysteries:
A pair of children was found dead in a car, cause of dead undisclosed/not determined, but police think the situation is suspicious. Following a disturbance involving nigh a dozen of people, one man was found dead and two other in serious condition. The nature of their "condition" has not been discolsed, police are holding their statements concerning the deceased while awaiting his post-mortem examination.
There's been firearm offences too, one man was shot to death in a barber shop, as well as two cases of arson, an apartement building and a school were the target of arsonists.
Police managed to confiscate (over) two million dollars worth of amphetamines, the ones that weren't driving drunk that is. Two peelers are on suspension with full pay after being found driving while intoxicated, twice (the both of them).
All of this from just the sunday edition from the BBC website ... I'll say, Johnson has got his work cut out for him!

Current events in the UK
Let's get this weeks edition going shall we?
As often before, I start off with a bit of mystery: Yet another man was killed in a way yet to be specified, but his assasin has been found, and charged this time 'round!
A $50 000 drug bust gets this petty article, as if it's just a minor footnotes in todays crime-soaked world. Oh tempora o mores you say? This story about a woman raped in a public place gets even less of an article!
There's been some use of firebombs in the past few weeks, but now a pipe-bomb has been used to attack a building inhabited by an elderly couple.
As for stabbings, a man was stabbed in the neck outside of a pub (déjà vu like primed epoxy) and two kids have been charged with murder after stabbing a man to death.
To commemorate the death of a girl who was killed for her adherance to a subculture, authorities have built a bench. I suppose it is good to do more than just punish the murderers, which was also done here.
I'm ending today's post on a good note. Blood spilled and life lost, but still a good note. A man who attacked a perceived burglar was cleared of charches. The "burglar" was a neighbour who just got off a 12 hour drink-'n-drugs binge, and forced his way into the wrong house, thinking it was his. The homeowner was deemed to have used reasonable force.
All is not lost!

Current events in the UK
Still going strong, I bring you the news from accross the pond on the calm sunday.
No snooping around the archives this week, just the sunday papers are already overfilling my browser with stories of violence and pain.
Various in nature as well! Starting off with a hint of mystery: a dead body was found lying in the streets, it's yet to be determined what or who killed him. One man beat another to death, showing once more that nobody can be diarmed into a harmless person.
Another beating involved a child surving an attack by a gang of four.
Onto more serious matters then. A man was killed in cold blood, shot multiple times inside a crowded pub. There's also been yet another firebomb attack, a racially motivated one this time round.

Molotov everything
Once again, a person with poor impulse control has turned to manufacturing a firebomb, and attempted to kill somebody by setting fire to an inhabited building.
You can read the story here.
[SCM]
So stunning! It's illegal to manufacture destructive devices and/or firebombs, how could she have done this!
Well, the war on drugs has taught us that simply banning drugs doesn't work, so we must ban drug precursors as well. So, it is clear that we must ban gasoline and breakable bottles to prevent people from manufacturing molotovs! Didn't it end up working out great for methamphetamine?
[/SCM]
on another note, the agressor is being charged with:
Clearly, passing a lot of laws that make multiple aspects of a crime punishable is a great deterrent! (not). Where have we seen this before?

- attempted homicide-domestic violence
- arson of an occupied dwelling (two counts)
- manufacturing a firebomb.

Current events in the UK
Welcome once more to the gun debate critic on sunday, where I illustrate how a policy of strict gun control has not managed to rid the united kingdom of violent crime.
It should be noted that while I limit myself to doing this only once a week, I do not review the entire week, just the sunday papers. If you'd like to take a glimpse on just how bad the situation is on this side of the pond, check out this page. It is a chronological list of BBC articles concerning stabbing. This page lists shootings, gang activity can be seen here.
The following articles are from the BBC's sunday edition website.
One man was discovered at a garbage (think landfill), injured. Despite the paramedics efforts, the man died due to yet-to-be-determined injuries. A senior citizen was stabbed to death by a youth. Another man was stabbed as he tried to capture a trespasser. Yet another one was stabbed following a disturbance, and another one after a row in a bookies office
A woman is being charged with 60 different offences regarding arson, twice she tried to kill somebody.
Police arrested a teen suspected to have been involved in a gang-inspired drive-by shooting which left one person dead. No real guns for the two criminals who robbed a shop; but when police came to arrest them, a crowd of people attacked the cops, hurling rocks and other objects at them.

Arson homicide.
A woman died in a housefire on Easter sunday in Nocross. It has now been ruled that the death was a homicide.
I've always maintained that arson is a viable method of murder, wether the victim is one person, or a school full of them. If we want to be safe, we must seek to change the way people deal with their violent inclinations, and not just the tools available to them, because someone bent on murder will always find a way.
